This week we will be busy reviewing our letters learned thus far and working on our numbers.   We will also be practicing for our Christmas Program this Thursday the 11th at 8:30a.m.  Children should come to school in their Christmas best outfits and bring a change of clothes for after the program.

This is the last full week before our Christmas break and will be busy with lots of fun crafts and activities.

Oh - and you may have heard the children talking about Hank, the elf.  He is the kindergarten wing's Elf on the Shelf and seems to be a rather mischievous elf!

Monday 12/15, Tuesday 12/16 and Wednesday 12/17 are all early dismissal days at 11:20 a.m.

We will have pajama day/Frozen movie on next Tuesday the 16th and our Christmas Party on Wednesday the 17th.

Also, be looking out for a special family project that I will be sending home this week to be completed over the Christmas Break!

THANK YOU TO OUR VETERANS!!!

First off, HAPPY VETERANS DAY and a BIG THANK YOU to those who have served and those who are actively serving now!!
WOW...our class has been super busy with activities and trips these past couple of weeks - sorry for the delay in getting this updated!  Thank you to all of you who have helped with our field trips as well!

This week we are learning about the letter "Q" and will even make some quesadillas one day.  Next week will be the letter "G". Thank you again to those of you clipping out our words beginning with these letters.   The children enjoy seeing out letter collages come together!

We are also learning about the pilgrims and Native Americans and the first Thanksgiving.  As part of this theme, I would like for each student to decorate a jug or carton (preferably gallon milk jug) as an animal. Choose any animal and be creative!  We will then make our very own totem pole.  Please have these completed jugs in by Wednesday November 19th.  I can't wait to see them!

In the next few days, the students will be choosing their Native American name, and we will make our indian costumes for our Thanksgiving festivities on the final day of school before Thanksgiving.

DATES TO REMEMBER:
School wide Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday the 19th... Please have those forms in to school by the 17th so they can have an accurate head count.  Thanks!

November 20th - Progress Reports will be sent out AS NEEDED.

December 4th we will sing at the Nature Trail after the Christmas parade that evening.  More info to come.

Also, the THA Christmas program that was originally scheduled for December 4th has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 11th!!

Our Families are Fabulous!

We have had a great week learning about our different families! Thank you so much for sending in your special items and sharing your family traditions with us!  We also had fun with the letter "I" making our ice cream cones and igloos.

Next week will be filled with the letter "U", pumpkins galore and learning about Fire Safety.

We will be discussing the different parts of the pumpkin as we carve it and then roast the seeds for a
special treat!

We will also make a special thank you for our Fire Department for all they do to protect us and prevent fires!

Tuesday, REPORT CARDS go home.  Please sign and return.  A copy will be sent home for your records as well.

Fall and "H" Week 9/29 - 10/3

Last week was a great week learning about the letter "E" and Colors of the World.  When you get a moment, check out our rainbow in the hall that we made with our handprints.

This week we are working on the letter "H" and the learning about the Fall season.  Weather permitting, we will take a nature walk around school to collect leaves, acorns and other signs of fall then create some crafts with our findings.

This week is a busy one as we celebrate Spirit Week getting ready for Homecoming this Friday.  Students may wear a THA t-shirt with uniform bottoms on Friday.  We will be attending the Pep Rally on Friday in the gym from 12:40 - 1:00 pm.  Cheek cheers will be on sale that morning too!

Also, Friday will be HAT DAY for the kindergarten wing - so you may wear your favorite hat or decorate any hat of your choosing.

Our class is collecting Box Tops for Education!!!  Please clip these and send them in any time to our class!!

This past week we began our Handwriting without Tears curriculum with the letter "L".  In addition to writing our L's, we made lamps, lion masks, tasted limes and filled our "L" collage with "L" words. Friday was especially fun as we learned how to Limbo too!
The next two weeks will feature Colors All Around.  We will work on the letter "F" and focus on purple, orange, pink and brown this week.  We will also be reviewing our shapes and take note of all the different shapes we see in our world every day.

  • Thursday, September 18th is the only day that wrapping paper sales may be turned in. Please don't forget!!

  • Progress reports will go home on Thursday, September 18th.

  • This Friday 9/19, students may wear a neon top with jeans or khakis. Friday is also Lil' Rebel day, so please make sure you have your child in the gym at the appropriate time so that they can attend breakfast!

WOOHOO!! It was a BANNER day today!!!

YAY! I am sooo happy to report that today was a banner day for K-4!  We did not have the first clothespin moved on our behavior chart!!  So EVERYONE stayed on green and had their choice of a smiley stamp or some "smelly" lotion at the end of the day.
Just to review for you, we ALL begin every day on GREEN (We are respectful, responsible and ready to learn).  If there is a lack of the above green behavior, a clothespin is moved down to ORANGE (Uh oh - make better choices).  If better choices are exhibited, then the clothespin may be moved back up to orange OR can be moved up to PURPLE ('Owl'-standing behavior).  If things don't improve or if there is a behavior that is not tolerated (ie, biting, hitting, spitting, etc.) then the clothespin moves down to RED (note sent home).
At the end of our day, we review are chart.  If you are on green, you have your choice of a smiley face stamp on your hand or "smelly" hand lotion (Bath & Body Works lotion).  If you made it to purple for the day, you get BOTH - a stamp and "smelly" lotion.  Unfortunately, orange gets nothing but a gentle reminder to make better choices tomorrow - as it will be a new day!!
I hope this helps better understand our system and why you've been being asked to "smell my hands!!"  They absolutely LOVE it! And I am so proud of them!
I am loving getting to know each one of them better and am looking forward to what all we are going to learn about each other in the next couple of weeks of "All About Me"!  Thank you for sharing them with me!
Their little personalities are really beginning to shine!
